A Walk on the Wild Side
We have discovered a new wood to walk in,we didn't know was there.
so it came as a wonderful surprise
It is hidden from sight in between busy streets and at the back of the Water Works.
We turned left off the main road into town expecting it to be a dead end, but we wanted to look at these old cottages.
Then we came upon this sign..
The wood, or 'gardens' as they are called on the sign, are all enclosed with specific entry points for visitors.
So we ventured in....
....and saw this.....
........venturing further in...
This caught my eye, some sort of fungus I think on the top of a tree stump..
Sorry the photo is rather fuzzy but I took these pictures on my phone instead of my usual digital camera....that was still sitting on the kitchen table.
There was also this mysterious looking hole..
We found the two artesian wells mentioned on the sign..
....but only got a photograph of one. The other one was well camouflaged by reeds and didn't like to get too close as the ground was exceedingly boggy.
We walked to the end, it is a long and thin strip of secluded wood land.
Did notice rather a lot of Blackberry bushes that still had old fruits on, no one had picked them.
So will remember that next summer.
Then back to the main entrance and back on to the road.
What a little gem
We will be back
